The Advantages and Disadvantages of Orthopedic Mattress

Orthopedics Mattress

An orthopaedic mattress is a mattress that is designed with the sole reason to support the joints, back and the overall body. This has been influenced by the study orthopaedics, which has to do with the spine and the bones. The primary function of orthopaedics mattresses is to combat problems like back pain and aches, osteoporosis, arthritis, joint pains and other similar conditions. This is achieved by providing a firm mattress which increases support. This mattress conforms to the outline of your body, giving support to all the points where it is needed, thus reducing the chances of pain.

Advantages Of Orthopedic Mattress

  1. Improved Posture- An orthopaedic bed prevents the body from curling up during sleep. It also gives a better posture. Improved posture during sleep has a large number of benefits. These benefits include reduced stress and strain on the spine. It also provides increased energy for the person during day time.

  2. Sound Sleep – An orthopaedics mattress provides the best comfort and support for anyone suffering from back pain and aches, osteoporosis, arthritis, joint problems and other similar conditions. Extra support from the bed helps improve the body posture and thus reduce the discomfort of pain, and therefore reducing the chances of disturbed sleep.

  3. Couples – It doesn’t have the bouncy effect of the spring mattresses, or sink like a memory foam mattress. This prevents the disturbing rippling effect that usually takes place when one sleeper moves from one side of the bed to another side of the bed.

  4. Economical – Orthopedic mattresses may be costlier than other mattresses; however, they are preferred on a long run as they last for more years in their perfect condition.

Disadvantages Of Orthopedic Mattresses

  1. High Cost: The orthopaedic mattresses have a very high cost. It can cost up to 50% more than a regular mattress. A lot of people can not afford such a high cost.

  2. Increased Weight: Orthopedic mattresses are usually thick and bulky, which makes it extremely heavy. This makes it difficult to move the mattress from one room to the other if it is ever needed.

  3. Reliability Issues: Most countries do not have particular standards that differentiate them from typical mattresses. In such cases, individual companies quickly get away by selling regular mattresses, which they claim as orthopaedic mattresses, which will not have the properties of orthopaedic mattresses. This results in the customer paying more for a product which claims to be something its not.

Orthopedic mattresses have both their disadvantages and advantages. As long as we invest in a reliable company, with good quality and reasonable price, the orthopaedic mattress will serve its purpose.
