Celebrate Navratri With A Home Makeover: Try 4 Tips

The festive season is truly upon us, ushering in a spirit of joy, celebration, and good luck. While we continue to grapple with the Coronavirus even today, most of us are not as paranoid about it as we used to be. Instead, most of us are training our sights on a few months of revelry with our near and dear ones. After the horrendous last few months we have had, all of us deserve a celebration!

And what better way to kick off the festivities than with Navratri? It is one of the most joyous festivals celebrated in various parts of the country. It represents the triumph of good over evil, and the start of wonderful new things.

Want some inspiration on how to give your home a simple makeover this season? Start with these tips:

#1 Add pops of colour to the home.

Navratri is one of the most vibrant Indian festivals. It is symbolised by light, colour and gulaal. While most of us celebrate this festival by going out to play garba in colourful traditional attire and hanging out with friends, you can bring the festivities into your home in a special way. Introduce pops of colour at various points in the house to get in the Navratri spirit. It could be as simple as adding red cushion covers on the living room couch, or dual-toned curtains for the hall windows. In the bedroom, have wall art in ethnic themes, or bedsheets in vibrant shades.

#2 Get gorgeous floor rugs.

On the subject of rugs, now is the best time to get stunning floor rugs for your living room, and even one for your bedroom. Rugs elevate the design aesthetic of the space and draw attention to the floor. They are great accessories to have if you have a gorgeous wood parquet flooring, or have newly tiled your floors with glossy tiles. Go with bright colours if the rest of the room is furnished simply, or has a pastel hue on the walls.

#3 A bedside runner would be nice!

A new trend in bedroom décor is to feature bedside runners. These are small rugs placed alongside the bed, so that one may step on to it instead of the bare floor when they wake up in the morning. Classy and elegant, bedside runners emphasise the sleeping space and are a boon for cold bedrooms where you don’t want to place your feet on an icy floor first thing in the morning. They are also recommended for those suffering from foot injuries or disorders like Plantar Fasciitis. Look for plain but bold colours like red or turquoise, or quirky prints, or ethnic prints like Ikat or Batik.

#4 Get new door mats to welcome guests.

Navratri runs for nine days, and you might guests coming over frequently. Your beautiful home is a haven to visit, but not if guests trail mud and grime inside the house with their footwear. Welcome guests home with colourful new door mats. Place one outside the main entrance door, and others outside bathrooms. Door mats are hardy and designed to take multiple footfalls over years. They absorb moisture as well. Just be sure to vacuum clean the door mats regularly, since they collect dust and dirt rapidly.

We hope you and your loved ones celebrate the most special Navratri of your lives this year, and invite friends and family members to celebrate with you. The tips outlined above can help your home get into the festive spirit, too.
