How To Decorate A Small Bedroom: Simple Tips

Designing a small bedroom is always a challenge – there is always much more stuff than the space for it! We’ve compiled a simple guide on how to decorate a small bedroom to help you out:

* Throw away what you don’t need.

A small bedroom leaves you with little choice in terms of the number of furniture items you can have in there. You will have to do away with sofa chairs and floor rugs, because these will just end up taking too much space. Ditto for clothes that you don’t need, shoes you are never going to wear, bags that are out of season. Do a purge before you design your room, so that you are left with only the essentials you need to fit in there.

* Find a space for the bed.

If the bedroom is small to begin with, then you might consider installing a single bed to save space. However, a single bed is a good idea only if the room has one occupant. If not, then a double bed will have to be purchased. But you can still use a space saving hack, like installing a foldaway bed – these can be folded into the adjoining wall after use, and are mounted on a hydraulic assembly. You can use the floor space after the bed has been tucked away into the wall.

* Create storage for bed linen.

Where there is a bed, there will be a mattress, pillows, comforter, and bed sheet. You will need storage space for the same, and ensure that it is large enough to hold all the bed linen. If you don’t have a foldaway bed, you can make drawers for the space under the bed to store the bed sheets, comforter and pillow cases. You can buy double or single bed sheets online – look for a high thread count to get a softer, more durable material – from leading bed linen brands in India.

* Install shelves instead of a wardrobe.

A wardrobe is necessary to store your clothes in, but it takes up too much space. You should look for alternative spaces and ideas. Here’s one: instead of a full wardrobe, have a series of shelves fitted from floor to ceiling. They serve the purpose of storing your clothes and bed linen, and they also create a feeling of visual ‘openness’ instead of making the room look cluttered.

* Use ceiling level shelves for storage boxes.

Here’s another idea for stowing away extra items that you don’t need right away. Create open shelves about a foot below the ceiling, along the perimeter of the bedroom. Now get some coloured storage boxes and put away all the extra items you don’t need. If you have a slim step ladder, you can even put away the double or single bed sheets you bought and get them out only when you need to change the bed linen. These high shelves can hold files, extra papers, shoes,

We hope these easy tips help you. Happy designing!
